Teaching philosophy

When I work with a student of guitar, so many wonderful things happen. Soon after forming a relationship, the student knows that I have their best interest in mind. They step into a supportive, joyous, and respectful world. It is most important that I meet them as fellow seekers, and embrace their unique gifts and personalities.

Guitar Lessons

It is such a pleasure to watch students progress; whether it’s memorizing their favorite songs, learning to read music, writing their own music, or discovering the guitar’s rich vocabulary.

Empowerment is at the core of my teaching values. The Student will leave each lesson feeling excited to practice and secure knowing that they have what it takes to succeed.

Discipline is also an important aspect of learning, and I gently ask each student to push against their limits each week. This must always be done with love and humor. It is wonderful to see the student’s take ownership of their learning. They are encouraged to go in any musical direction they choose.

Through joy, discipline and modeling excellence, I help the students to become life long learners. The pursuit of learning an instrument develops skills that, if nurtured, continue to give gifts for a lifetime of enjoyment and enrichment. Music is a vehicle for developing what is best in the human potential and it is my deep honor to guide anyone who comes to our studio looking to begin their journey.

Lessons are available at our home studio in Evanston, Illinois or at Baker Demonstration School for current Baker students. Martin gives guitar lessons to students from Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Northbrook, Northfield, Winnteka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Lake Forest and Chicago, Illinois.
