Timothy Ryan Fisher was born into a family of Iowa teachers, both grandmothers and mother earned masters degrees in education. Ryan took his first guitar student at the age of 15 at The American International School in Vienna Austria and taught private lessons for four years while in high school. After attending Berklee College of Music in Boston he taught at the Guitar Foundation and Guitar Center in Iowa City for a decade, working as a TA for the Music Department, earning a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Iowa in 2001 he moved to Chicago to teach history at Lincoln Park High School. An offer to teach at The Old Town School of Folk led to a decade and a half teaching banjo, performing in Chicago, topping the Bluegrass Charts and winning awards for the preservation of Traditional American Music. Ryan enjoys sharing his art and techniques to students of any level or ability.
