Flamenco From The Heart
Leley came together in the spring of 2012, when Amaia, Leley’s singer, moved to Chicago from her native Spain, and started seeking like-minded musicians and dancers with whom to share her passion and commitment to the art of true flamenco. Moving to Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood proved to be fortuitous, for soon after she met Martin Metzger, guitarist for the group. The ensuing friendship and spontaneous musical chemistry immediately attracted the attention of Andrea Peterson and Marisela Tapia, two of the fieriest, most talented and dedicated young flamenco dancers in Chicago. The convergence of these four personalities brought something special into being, which was evident from their first rehearsal as a group. By summer of 2012, Leley began performing at many of the city’s finest venues, including the National Museum of Mexican Art, Millenium Park, and the University of Illinois Chicago’s Pavilion (sponsored by Wbez), besides other successful private events and parties. Audiences have described Leley performances as arousing, mesmerizing, masterfully executed and emotionally compelling.
Yoga & Guitar with Cassie Rodgers
Cassie Rodgers is a fantastic yoga teacher and photographer, with whom I collaborate. I perform for her yoga workshops, and use her photography and video skills with my studio and projects. In addition, we collaborate creating a yoga class with improvised flamenco guitar. Students benefit from Cassie’s wisdom and years of experience as a yoga teacher and Martin’s creative and supportive music. The result is an experience that calms the mind, relieves tension in the body and creates joy and piece in the heart.

Wood To Water
Collectively the group combines the rudimental genres of rock, jazz, and classical with traditional Eastern European, Indian, South American and Middle Eastern music. Instrumentation includes acoustic and electric guitars, saxophones, acoustic and electric violin, acoustic and electric bass, and Irish, African and Middle Eastern hand drums and percussion.
Not only does the group utilize individual improvisation, but it also has developed its unique sound of group improvisation through esthetics and explorations, focusing on color, breath, depth and timbre. This mixture incorporates elements that are brooding, melodic, rhythmic, and dissonant.
Original compositions suggest a “coming home” feel all inspired by such diverse groups and artists such as Shakti, Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny, Anouar Brahem, and Paco DeLucia–yet offer an off slant view to the new.
